Smart Ways to Give

If you hold appreciated stock or are taking a required IRA distribution, these strategies let you give more to students and keep more of what you've earned. The information below is for general educational purposes and does not constitute tax or legal advice โ€” please consult your financial advisor.

Matching Gifts

Many employers match charitable contributions, doubling or even tripling your donation. KSF EIN: 46-1866001. Ask your HR department if your company participates โ€” matching employers include Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, and more!

Workplace Giving

Participate in company-wide giving campaigns or pledge drives. Some employers offer payroll deduction options for recurring donations, making it easy to support KSF year-round.

Donor-Advised Funds

Recommend a grant from your DAF to KSF. It's a tax-efficient way to support our mission using assets you've already set aside for giving. Contact your DAF sponsor to recommend a grant.

Gifts of Appreciated Stock or Securities

Transferring appreciated stock directly to KSF lets you avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation and receive a deduction for the full fair market value โ€” making your gift worth significantly more than selling first and donating the proceeds.

How it works

Instruct your broker to transfer shares directly to KSF. Contact us for transfer instructions.

Tax benefit

Avoid capital gains on long-term holdings. Deduct full fair market value on date of transfer.

Best for

Publicly traded stocks, mutual funds, or other appreciated securities in taxable accounts.

Minimum holding

Shares held more than one year qualify for long-term capital gains treatment.

Lasting Legacy

Leave a Lasting Legacy

A planned gift ensures that generations of Kent students โ€” long after you're gone โ€” have access to the resources they need to thrive. We encourage you to work with your financial or legal advisor when exploring these options.

Bequests

Name KSF in your will or revocable living trust โ€” a specific amount, a percentage, or a remainder gift. Simple, flexible, and revocable during your lifetime.

Retirement Plan Beneficiary

Name KSF as a full or partial beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or other retirement plan. Charitable designations are often the most tax-efficient use of those funds.

Other Gift Arrangements

KSF welcomes gifts of real estate, business interests, and other complex assets โ€” considered case-by-case, guided by donor intent and community need.
